How much do care homes cost in Northern Ireland?
Care home costs in Northern Ireland will vary depending on the level of care your loved one may need.
The first thing care searchers need to do is contact their local Health and Social Care Trust to request a care needs assessment and a financial assessment.
There is no cost for a care needs assessment, and it can be carried out online, over the telephone or face to face. Results will include recommendations about whether care is needed, and if so, what type of care.
The care needs assessment will also help identify whether your loved one requires support of specialist nurses in a nursing care home, or if their needs can be managed in a residential care home without dedicated nursing support.

Care home funding in Northern Ireland
If you live in Northern Ireland and have over £23,250 in capital (savings, investments and property including the value of your home), your local Health and Social Care Trust will assess whether or not you are able to pay the total costs required for your residential or nursing home.
If you have capital below £23,250 you will need to contact your local Health and Social Care Trust to arrange a care needs assessment and a financial needs assessment.
Please do not wait until your capital is already at or below the funding threshold as these assessments can take some time.
